Which system best suits for you?
Radiator Panels – Underfloor Heating – Air Conditioning
Who We Are
Radiator panels are the most cost effective solution for refurbished homes. If your home is cold and at times unbearable during the winter months, radiator panels can be the perfect solution for you. Liquid Transition offers designer radiator panels as well as standard white radiator panels. Radiator panels are cost effective and can often be integrated with minor building works without having any effect to the livability of the home during installation.
Hydronic underfloor heating is best suited for newly built homes and extensions. Hydronic underfloor heating is more comfortable than radiator panels due to its radiant energy output. Hydronic underfloor heating has the advantage of a smaller heat sources due to the low temperature of water. Hydronic floor heating pipework within the slab often outlast the building’s lifespan hence no maintenance of the pipework within the slab is need. However, an annual inspection by a licensed tradesman is recommended for family homes.
Comparing air conditioning to hydronic floor heating or radiator panels is like comparing apples to oranges. Air conditioning is purely convection, which is the movement of air; the comfort criteria for the human body cannot be achieved with an AC alone.
Underfloor heating has the highest proportion of radiant energy, while radiator panels provide half that radiant energy of underfloor heating. Radiant energy is a form of energy that travels through heat waves. We feel comfortable when walking out of the cold shade into the sun light due to the radiant proportion of the sun’s energy stream. This is a direct comparison to the comfort felt by underfloor heating and radiator panels.
The chart below is a summary of the comfort criteria of ISO7730, The Ergonomics of the Thermal Environment. The chart displays the following:
- An Ideal Comfort Curve for the human body shows: we prefer warm feet and a cooler head temperature relative to our feet.
- Underfloor Heating is the closest heating source that satisfies the highest level of comfort for the human body.
- Radiators are the best at providing a warmer air temperature at the head height and a slightly cooler floor temperature.
- Air Conditioning, as shown in the diagram, is dismal in providing the body with a cold floor and very warm head. This is because the majority of the hot air rises to the ceiling. Needless to mention the low energy efficiency of air
We provide you with tailored costing for your residential project based on your requirements. Commercial and industrial projects require an initial draft design which will require an additional 1-3 business days.
The cost of hydronic heating varies depending on the construction type and chosen system. The lowest cost hydronic heating system is the radiator panel system.
Whilst for Underfloor Heating, the pricing requires calculations depending upon the required heat output for the home and the system that best suits the floor construction.
